Workplace Well-being

Meet Krista

Krista Barry, MAPP (Distinction), is a positive psychology practitioner, published researcher, and founder of Flow Like Water Academy. Her work brings together evidence-based psychology, neuroscience-informed wellbeing practices, and experiential learning to support individuals, groups, and organisations in strengthening resilience and overall wellbeing.

Krista holds a Master of Applied Positive Psychology with Distinction and continues to engage in ongoing research and professional development in positive psychology and neuroscience. Her peer-reviewed research exploring women’s wellbeing through surfing has been published in the Annals of Leisure Research and has attracted wider media attention, including features in The Australian Women’s Weekly. She has also shared her work through podcasts, interviews, and presentations focused on women’s wellbeing and nature-based approaches to positive psychology.

Krista has collaborated with universities, community organisations, and businesses on well-being initiatives and programs. She is currently involved in programs connected with the City of Gold Coast’s Active & Healthy social sport initiatives. She contributes to the development of future wellbeing education through her involvement with Central Queensland University’s (CQU) Positive Psychology and Workplace Wellbeing course committee.

Alongside her academic work, Krista brings decades of practical experience in coaching, business leadership, and water-based learning. She is the owner and director of Godfathers of the Ocean Surf School, which she has led on the Gold Coast for over 25 years. Krista was also a member of the Australian Institute of Sport swim team and has a lifelong connection with ocean and water environments that continues to shape her work today through swimming, surfing, and ocean-based well-being practices.

Working with Krista has greatly benefited both my child and me. Krista’s sessions have provided us with practical strategies and insights, based on her experience as an athlete and her knowledge of positive psychology, which have proven incredibly valuable.

During our time with Krista, my daughter has learned to recognise her strengths and to see setbacks as a valuable learning curve rather than a sign of not being good enough.

Her advice on setting goals and managing feedback has positively influenced the way my daughter approaches sports, school, and life in general, in a fun and realistic way.

I strongly recommend her to any parent wanting to foster their child’s development in a balanced and positive manner.
